Everything you need to know about Injective Protocol [blockchain UX case study]

If you operate in the financial markets, you've probably heard about the Injective Protocol, which is one of the most innovative decentralized exchanges and Web 3.0 financial app builders. Injective Protocol is an open, interoperable smart contracts platform, but more importantly, it's the only blockchain where you can have access to out-of-the-box modules such as a completely decentralized orderbook allowing you to build a variety of sophisticated applications.

In this post, we want to tell you a bit more about the injective ecosystem and show you the platform we designed for it.

What is Injective Protocol?

Injective (INJ) is a decentralized exchange protocol based on the Ethereum platform that's used for trading various digital assets powering next-generation DeFi applications, including decentralized spot and derivatives exchanges. The development of this technology is possible mostly thanks to Injective Labs, a research and development company focused on creating a Web3 infrastructure and financial solutions functioning fully on chain.

The current market cap of Injective is $3.02B. INJ token is Injective's native staking token. You can buy Injective INJ tokens on centralized crypto exchanges, such as Bitunix and Binance. As of today, the highest price paid for the Injective token is $45.01 (recorded on Jan 09, 2024). According to Coingecko, the INJ price usually varies from $33.72 to $41.67.

The Injective blockchain comprises various components designed to facilitate the operations within its decentralized exchange:

INJECTIVE ECOSYSTEM

Injective has built the largest and fastest-growing Web3 financial ecosystem that comprises:

  • dApps (e.g., DojoSwap and Helix)
  • Blockchains (e.g., BNB Chain, Ethereum, Polygon, and CosmosHub)
  • Institutions (e.g., Jump Crypto and BH Digital)
  • Wallets (e.g., Kepir, Trezor, and MetaMask)

And more! As of today, The Injective ecosystem includes 100+ projects and over 150,000 community members globally.

INJECTIVE CHAIN

It's a decentralized exchange (DEX) protocol built on Cosmos sdk that offers instant transaction finality using the Tendermint proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. The Injective (INJ) protocol facilitates the transfer and trading of Ethereum tokens. It addresses the scaling issues of Layer 1 blockchains (Injective is a Layer 2 application) while allowing developers to utilize Ethereum development kits. Traders can access modules within the Injective Chain DEX, including Auction, Exchange, Insurance, Oracle, and Peggy.

INJECTIVE EXCHANGE

The Injective Exchange works like other trading platforms but is modeled based on the 0x protocol. The Injective team made all parts of the exchange public, like the user interface, smart contract features, and the order book system. Such an approach ensures the platform is clear and easy to use.

Injective aims to prevent unfair practices like trade front running. They use something called a Trade Execution Coordinator (TEC) that adds a delay. This delay makes sure that new orders can't be placed before older ones, which helps address issues where some traders or bots might have an unfair advantage with advanced information, which could adversely affect trading volume.

INJECTIVE HUB

The injective hub is the centralized dashboard enabling you to make the most of the Injective (INJ) ecosystem. This is where you can place bids, vote on new governance procedures, and transfer cross-chain assets to Injective. The Injective hub can also be integrated with various blockchain wallets, such as MetaMask, Ninji, Leap, or Torus. This is how the hub looks:

Injective uniquely designed dashboard facilitating purchasing INJ and other operations

But Injective is not just the technology and the dashboard. It's also a UX-optimized website, and this is where our role begins.

Injective: Our blockchain UX case study [website design]

We are pleased to say that we contributed to the development of this fascinating project. The Visux team was responsible for the design of Injective's new website. And currently, we're providing their team with ongoing design and UX support.

Injective wanted us to design a brand-new visual language for their new website. The people behind this project wanted to improve the website's UX and emphasize Injective's core identity and services.

We began by creating user personas, mapping customer journeys, and running a comprehensive UX audit for the previous website to understand what needs to be improved in order to make the Injective's new website user-friendly and transparent.

In the next stage, we moved on to wireframing and prototyping. At these stages, we were working on initial designs and how they should be implemented on the new website.

Injective: A new website design

The last stage focused on finalizing our designs - we created final layouts and the entire design system for the website. Among many other elements, we designed:

  • Primary and secondary colors
  • Primary and secondary buttons
  • Motion design (animations and interactive elements on the Injective's website)
  • Fonts and typeface
  • The whole website's layout and functionality

You can take a look at the result of our work here: Injective.com.

We're still working with Injective - we're providing them with ongoing UX and design support. We're happy to assist you, too! If you'd like to see more of our work, take a look at our recent case studies.
